Every year, over 70 million people visit France. Paris, the capital of France, serves as the world's number one tourist destination. Over 30 million people visited Paris in 2002, and the numbers have only risen since then.

Paris is an extremely tourist friendly city. Almost everyone speaks English, and tourist stations offer visitors a friendly and fun atmosphere to navigate the city. The Metro provides an easy and safe way to explore Paris.


Attractions


The City of Lights has numerous sights and attractions for visitors. Museums, squares, and shopping districts bring in millions each year. The most popular attractions include the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Arc de Triomphe.


The Eiffel Tower


Ever since its completion in 1889, the Eiffel Tower has been a world icon. Everyone wants to visit the tower when they arrive in Paris. The Eiffel tower receives an average of six million visitors each year and has hosted nearly 200 million since its construction was complete.


The Louvre


Located on the right bank side of the city, the Louvre is the national museum of France. It was built as a fortress in the 12th century for Philip II. Since then, it has changed ownership multiple times before settling as an art museum for France. The museum is home to pieces such as the Mona Lisa and receives about 15,000 visitors per day.


Notre Dame Cathedral


Paris's cathedrals are also a popular destination for tourists. The Notre Dame cathedral, was built between 1125 and 1345 and still stands in beauty today. It receives an average of 12 million visitors per year.
