Instructions

Book Your Trip From Bern to Paris

1. Anticipate the train trip between Bern and Paris taking between 5 and 5.5 hours. You will need to switch trains in either Lausanne or Basel, but the layover is usually only a few minutes, so be sure to move fast!

2. Budget for between $150 and $200 for a one-way, second-class trip and $230 to $300 for a first-class ticket. First-class seats are bigger and recline, and there are fewer seats in each car. Often, when you book, first-class tickets, meals are included as part of the price.

3. Book a France-Switzerland pass on the Rail Europe website. This costs about twice as much as a one-way trip to Paris and enables you to travel 4 times between Bern and Paris over a 2-month stretch. More importantly, it gives you unlimited travel on the French and Swiss national railroads.

4. Search for group discounts, which are especially advantageous for a group over 10 people, but are available even for groups of 2. Click on the 'Group Travel' tab on the homepage of Eurail's website.

5. Check out the 'Virtual Train Trip' feature on Rail Europe. This is particularly helpful if you are deciding whether you want to travel second class or first class. It will give you pictures and videos of the different kinds of cars and seats and other features of the train. Plus, it will inspire you!
