Breathe When Sprinting

breathe while sprintingThe key to a fast sprint is a proper breathing technique.

Instructions

Faster sprinting through better breathing

1. Make sure not to hold your breath. You may be concentrating on beating times, beating your competitors, or even just on the sprint. As soon as you start your sprint, open your mouth and take a breath.

2. Breathe in through your mouth, and out through your mouth. Unlike regular jogging or running, you need to breathe very quickly. Breathing in and out of your mouth stimulates you to breathe faster and deeper, making it easier to sprint faster.

3. Push your diaphragm down and expand your stomach while breathing in. This allows you to breathe deeper, getting more air per breath.

4. Breathe rhythmically. Breathe in on one or two steps; breathe out on one or two steps. Getting in a rhythm can help you focus and make you sprint faster.

5. Work with a sprinting coach if you can’t seem to match your breathing with your sprinting. A sprinting coach can evaluate your breathing, and give you pointers to improve your technique.
