Pregnancy is an exciting time for new mothers-to-be, not undermined by the fear of the unexpected. Many women attempt to broaden their knowledge of what to expect during their pregnancy to relieve the worry and tension. For most women, the main concern is through the first three weeks of pregnancy.
Week 1
When the sperm fertilizes the egg, information is gathered from the chromosomes of the mother and father. This forms the chromosomes of your baby. During this process, the sex of your baby is determined. This process takes up to a week, and you will not notice many signs of conception during this time.
If you are planning to conceive or feel you may have conceived, take a pregnancy test after your missed period. Also avoid using tobacco and alcohol, as they can harm your unborn child.
Week 2
During the second week of your pregnancy, you may notice implantation bleeding. This means you have indeed conceived, and the fetus is connecting itself to the lining of your uterus. Implantation bleeding is typically light spotting that lasts a very short time, and is lighter than your menstrual cycle. You may begin to notice some changes in your body, such as tender breasts and fatigue.
Week 3
You will begin to notice more pregnancy symptoms in the third week. These may include dizziness, mood swings, increased urination, nausea, and morning sickness. Not everyone will experience these symptoms, but they are common during the third week of pregnancy.
The third week is also a vital time for your baby's development. The fetus is just beginning to develop into something more than a fertilized egg. The fetus' heart and circulatory system are developing quickly.
Future Weeks
After the first three weeks, your baby begins developing rapidly. The first trimester is imperative to his growth. You need a healthy supply of nutrients to not only keep your own body healthy, but to keep your baby healthy as well.
Not long after the first three weeks, you will notice an increase in your appetite and weight. Eventually, you will have an ultrasound to see your baby. Not long after that, you will begin to feel your baby's movements and maybe even a kick or two.
Avoid Anxiety
If this is your first pregnancy, consult your doctor on what to expect. It is best to avoid anxiety over the changes in your body. Your moods affect your unborn child, and anxiety does not only harm you, but him as well. If you feel that something is wrong, contact your doctor.
