Make Energy Gels

Energy gels are a great way to sustain energy levels during sports and exercise.

In the world of sports and exercise, everyone looks for ways to restore energy. Energy gels are a convenient energy revival option that you can use quickly. Energy gels work by restoring carbohydrates, simple sugars and electrolytes, much like a commercial energy drink. The disadvantage of using energy gels is their high cost. It is possible, though, to make your own energy gels at home using simple, easy-to-obtain ingredients.

Instructions

1. Create a double boiler if you do not already have one. You can do this by placing a smaller, dry pan into a larger pan filled with water.

2. Place all ingredients into the smaller pan of the double boiler, and turn the heat on low. At the same time, place slightly more than 1/2 cup water--to allow for evaporation--into a pan and heat it to boiling.

3. Stir all of the ingredients using a wooden spoon for about 15 minutes, or until the mixture becomes runny.

4. Remove the mixture of ingredients from the double boiler by taking the pan out of the water. Add the hot water to the ingredients and stir vigorously until the water and ingredients are uniformly mixed and no longer separate.

5. Allow the gel to cool. Place the cooled gel into small plastic bottles that are convenient to carry during exercise.
