Schedule
The soil must be kept moist for the sod to root in the soil below. Watering the sod with 1 inch of water during the early part of the day every other day will keep the sod viable. Summer planting may require daily watering for the first week.
Enough Moisture
The soil needs to be moist so that the roots keep growing and the sod stays green. If the soil is allowed to dry out, the rooting process will slow down and suffer damage.
Overwatering
Watering the new sod is vital, but soil that is kept wet and soggy will cause root rot, and the roots will not re-root into the soil below. If it rains between waterings, skip a day before watering again.
