HOME remedy for nasal drip
Nasal drip occurs when mucus accumulates in the back of the nose and throat. It can be caused by a number of factors including allergies, the environment, a cold or a virus. No matter what is causing your nasal drip, there are many home remedies that can be effective. If your nasal drip has been persistent for a long period of time, you should contact your doctor for evaluation.
Blow Your Nose
Sometimes it's just as simple as blowing your nose to remedy nasal drip. Gently blow your nose with a tissue or soft handkerchief a few times a day. Be careful not to blow your nose too much, or the outside of your nose may become dry and irritated. If your nose does become red, use a bit of Vaseline on the outside of your nostrils to moisturize your nose.
Salt Water
Using salt water to irrigate your nasal passages will help alleviate your nasal drip. Make a salt solution at home by mixing table salt with hot water, and use a bulb syringe to place drops in your nostrils. You can irrigate your nose several times a day for relief of nasal drip. The salt-water solution will flush out the mucus in the nose. You can also gargle with salt water to clear the drainage caused by nasal drip.
Drink Fluids
If you have nasal drip, be sure to drink plenty of fluids. Drink herbal tea or plain hot water with a squeeze of lemon. Not only will it make a sore throat feel better, but fluids will help flush the mucus from the back of your throat and alleviate nasal drip.
Things to Avoid
If you are suffering from nasal drip, you should avoid eating or drinking dairy. Food or drinks that have lactose result in an overgrowth of mold and bacteria in the body, which will contribute to the production of mucus. Also, you should avoid excessive amounts of alcohol and caffeine if you suffer from nasal drip.
