Running with
a group is healthy and fun.
Running helps you to increase endurance, lose weight and maintain a healthy level of fitness, but solitary runners might struggle to maintain their motivation and commitment. Free running clubs will add a social aspect to your workouts, teach you new training habits, and perhaps even increase your competitive spirit.
A Snail's Pace Running Club-Brea
A snail's pace is no match for your own. Just be sure not to trample them underfoot!
If you're trying to fit group runs into a busy schedule or you're hoping to meet a large and varied group of people, the Brea chapter of A Snail's Pace Running Club is a wise choice. Trail runs and fun runs are scheduled for almost every day of the week, and ASPRC-Brea has nearly 300 members registered online. Running with ASPRC-Brea is free, but you can also receive monthly newsletters, discounts on races, and other benefits by paying annual dues to become a club member.
Gone Running
Training for a marathon is challenging due not only to the distance, but also because of the different types of training your body needs. Members of Gone Running will help keep you on track by organizing distance runs, hill runs, and even cross-training. You might even want to grab a headlamp and head out on a night run. Even if you're conditioning for a shorter distance, Gone Running encourages Orange County runners to join them for free at any time.
The Orange Country Frontrunners
Re-energize and avoid a midweek slump with the Orange County Frontrunners. This club meets every Wednesday for a 3- to 6-mile run, but you're likely to find at least one willing partner if you decide to run farther than the group. Weekend runs are occasionally arranged when members of the Frontrunners are preparing for the same race.
Mud Run Social Club
You might find yourself seeking out signs like this after training with Mud Run Social Club.
Runners who are looking for a less conventional club will find themselves in good company with Mud Run Social Club. MRSC invites men and women in Southern California to join them on training runs and race them through mud pits, then celebrate the team's victories with pub runs (mud not included). Membership is free and any level of running skill is welcome -- the most important contribution you can make is your sense of adventure.
