Healthy Detox Program

Those who advocate a detoxification program say that detox is helpful in removing harmful toxins that build up in the body over time. Detox can be done by most people who are healthy and ready to cleanse their bodies naturally. Talk to a doctor before attempting any detox program, to ensure that it is safe for you.

Detox Advantages

Foods and drinks that you eat, medicines and drugs that you take and even the air you breathe contain chemicals that are not good for your body. Over time, consuming large amounts of additives, pesticides, fats and other substances can overload your body's systems and deposit toxins in the organs, such as the liver and colon. A healthy detox program can aid your body and its organs in removing these waste products in a safe and easy manner, leaving your body cleaner and functioning better.

Deciding

Many people suffer from a large range of problems, such as fatigue, digestive ills like upset stomach, constipation and bloating, a weak immunity system, headaches and more. Detoxing the body can help remedy these problems, because waste built up in the organs is finally expelled. If you have experienced any of these problems, and most of us have, a healthy detox may be the solution you are looking for.

Starting

The best way to start to detox your body is to remove the things that are bad for you. Cut out all processed foods, such as junk food, boxed foods and fast foods. Sugar, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and unnecessary prescription and over-the-counter drugs should all be stopped for a detox program. It may be easier to try to quit these over the course of a week or a few days, especially if you are used too many of these at once. Once you are used to going without these damaging products, you can really begin the detox process.

During Detox

A healthy detox diet should consist of mostly fruits and vegetables. Organic produce is best, as it is free of pesticides and chemicals. If you cannot purchase organic, be sure to wash all produce thoroughly before eating it. Many people use a juicer to aid in their detox, as they can juice up many healthy drinks that make it easier to stay on the detox. Not only will a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables of your choosing give you the vitamins and nutrients your body needs, you also will be getting needed fiber, which will aid in the detox process. Water is the only thing you should be drinking, at least 64 ounces a day. Adding lemon to your water can also speed up the detoxification process. Herbal and green teas are fine, providing they are caffeine-free and that you do not add sugar or cream to them. Fresh fish may be consumed once a day as well. A detox can last for any length of time, from three days to 21 days. Starting slowly is best for those attempting their first detox.
