Free Summer Events In Boston

The city of Boston.

In the summer, the Boston, Massachusetts area comes alive with events that celebrate the city's history and culture. Many of these events are free and open to the public. Residents and visitors may choose from free events that last just a day to events that last the entire summer.

Folk Dancing by the Fountain

Folk Dancing by the Fountain is an annual free event that takes place in Copley Square. Held outside, the event has taken place every summer since 1971. It is held each Tuesday in June, July and August, with programs beginning at 7:30 p.m. Trained dancers lead dancing activities for the public. Some of these trained dancers have international standing. However, no dance experience is necessary, as the event is strictly for fun and operates with the purpose of educating people about various types of dance. Access to the event is simple via the Green Line Trolley.

Movies by Moonlight

Movies by Moonlight is an annual, ongoing summer program hosted by the Boston Harbor Hotel. For this event, the hotel opens its terrace (which face the harbor) around dusk to hotel guests and visitors. The hotel then shows films that it considers to be memorable to those in attendance. The event is recommended for teens and adults, and as is standard with most theaters, very young children are asked to stay home so as to provide uninterrupted viewing of the film. Films are shown every Friday from June through September.
