Goal Setting For Running

Becoming an expert runner requires hard work and the desire to work towards goals. Whether it be weight loss, running speed, or distance, a runner can set a wide array of goals that all lead to becoming a better runner.


Set a Schedule


The only way to work toward a goal is to put forward the time to practice. Always start out with a goal that challenges you yet that you can still achieve. According to Hit the Road Running, "A vast majority of people do not set good goals for themselves and this trait is not helping them to realize their dreams."


Record your Progress


According to Marathon Training, "There are a variety of materials to record important data from your workouts (mileage, cumulative time/pace, weather conditions, comments on how you were feeling, etc.)." By recording the progress you are making towards your goal you are in turn motivating yourself to achieve it.


Personal Lifestyle Choices


Personal lifestyle choices such as drinking, smoking, or diet can hold you back from achieving your ultimate goal. The only way to accomplish what you started is to either cut down on or eliminate your bad habits.


Compete


Competing in road races can drive you even harder to accomplish your goal.


Never Give Up


Make small goals that ultimately bring you closer to the ultimate goal. If you start to burn out then cut back for awhile.According to Hit the Road Running,"If your ultimate goal is to run a marathon, for example, set interim goals to run a 5K, 10K, half marathon etc."
