Fundraising for Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a common Christian church endeavor. VBS students and leaders raise money for special trips as well as for the necessities that keep VBS programs thriving. Many VBS fundraising ideas are easy to bring to successful completion.
Walking
Schedule a Walk for Jesus event. VBS students sign up sponsors to commit to donating a pre-arranged amount for each mile walked. Allow sponsors to select what level of sponsorship to which they will commit. Name sponsorship levels with biblical titles. For example, you might offer three sponsorship levels named according to St. Paul's virtues of Faith, Hope and Love. Assign Love, the greatest of the virtues, as the highest sponsorship level. Amounts for each level depend upon need and community demographics.
Book Sale
Organize a VBS book sale. Gather books from the church and local community. Ask bookstores for book donations. If you hold your book sale in the summer, set up tables outside your church. VBS students can sell books and keep accounts. Hold a drawing at your book sale. Give the winner a leather-bound Bible or other special gift.
Scratch Cards
Raise money with VBS scratch cards. Pass out scratch cards at an existing event, such as a church supper. Order simple scratch cards decorated with Bible verses or biblical figures. The amount a person scratches is the amount that he donates.
Promotion
Announce your VBS fundraiser during church services and in your church bulletin. Circulate fliers to local merchants. Write a press release announcing the date of your fundraising event. Provide all relevant information, such as when and where to drop donations or sign up to support walkers. Use biblical themes as much as possible to keep attention on VBS.
