Fun Ideas For Charity Fundraisers

To raise money for a particular cause, many organizations turn to fundraising standards such as car washes, bake sales or selling candy. There are plenty of other ways to raise money for a cause and have fun in the process. Good fundraising events give organizations or causes more attention and more money. Organizations gain long-term supporters with an intriguing enough fundraiser.

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras celebrations are commonly associated with New Orleans, but for those that can't make it to the festivities elsewhere, a charity Mardi Gras event could be just the thing they would enjoy. People could be asked to dress in their most outlandish Mardi Gras clothes to come out to a parade or venue. The event should feature standard Mardi Gras colors such as purple, gold and green. Donations could be collected by charging a cover price, charging for food, holding raffles and selling Mardi Gras memorabilia. Hold a raffle to sell off a king cake, a traditional Mardi Gras cake.

Barbecue

Food is often a good incentive for people to want to donate money. Barbecue can be a fun, less common fundraising option incorporated in several different ways. People could be asked to pay a cover charge to be able to come in and sample barbecue from local teams or chefs. An organization could opt to host a barbecue competition, with teams donating to enter. Patrons can be charged per plate to raise money. Having a barbecue fundraiser in the winter could be more fun, because some people may not expect that.

Head Shaving

Recruit volunteers who would be willing to shave his or her head for the cause. Long-haired volunteers may get more people to donate, because it seems more dramatic of an event to go from long hair to no hair. People would donate to the cause to reach a minimum goal. Upon reaching the goal, the volunteer would get his or her head shaved in a public display. This public display could be in the form of a celebratory dinner for reaching the goal or, if enough publicity is generated, on a local news station.

Karaoke

Karaoke is a pastime that allows people to sing along to popular songs as though they were the stars. For a karaoke fundraising night, consider renting a space and decorating with an Asian theme. Karaoke is popular in Japan and other Asian countries, so karaoke nights for charity could give people a taste of another culture. The venue could be set up in bright colors and feature a food section with Asian-inspired dishes. Rent a karaoke machine, or see if someone has one they are willing to lend it out. Then, have people pay a door cover charge and let them sing to their heart's content.

Car Demolition

Car demolitions consist of people paying to take a swing at an old clunker car. Someone with your organization may have a car that they are willing to donate to the event. People can be charged per swing or for specific amounts of time to take a sledgehammer to the car. This can be a way to allow people to release some tension and frustration while also helping out a good cause.
