Fundraising Ideas For Relay For Life

The Relay for Life, put on each year by the American Cancer Society, helps raise money for cancer research and build awareness of the disease. Teams camp out at the event, which is held overnight and often takes place over 24 hours; it is usually at a school or park, and participants walk a set path or track. Each year, more than 3.5 million people participate in the Relay For Life annually.

Blue Jeans Day

If you work in an office where jeans aren't the norm, allow employees to "pay" for the privilege of wearing them. Once approved by management, set aside a day as Blue Jeans Day. Those who want to participate donate a minimum amount of money, usually $5 to $10, in order to dress casually for the day. Since there is no cost, 100% of the proceeds go toward the race participant.

Partner With a Local Business

Approach business owners in your community about working together to raise money. Perhaps the deal is that you get a percentage--generally about 10 percent--of sales during a certain time period. It may be a whole day, it may be for a few hours. The business owner can use it as a tax write-off, and you can bring in money toward your goal.

Facebook

Use the social networking website Facebook to post a link to your fundraising page and explain your story of why you're participating in the Relay For Life. You can also make it part of your status update, saying something like, "Jane Doe is only $440 away from meeting her fundraising goal for the Relay For Life. Won't you help?" and pasting your link into the post. It will remind people to donate and give them quick access to your page.
