Fundraising Ideas For Charity Games

Playing poker for charity requires a permit.

Charities only have a few revenue streams; one way they make money is through fund-raising. Fund-raising involves volunteers organizing parties, games and events where people socialize while donating to good causes. Fund-raising events serve as advertising and educate the public about the charity and its goals, methods and progress -- as well as helping the charity make money.

Poker for Charity

Organize a poker tournament to support your favorite charity. The first step is to check what local regulations apply to holding your charity event in your city. You'll also need a location that is set up to handle a large crowd and many tables for poker players. Rent tables and other supplies. Whatever location you arrange will have suggestions on where to rent the things you'll need. The next step is advertising the event. Prepare a press release stating where and when you will hold the event, what the prizes are and what the rules of the game will be. Also state who can enter. Include information about the charity and their good works. Organize volunteers to help run the event and arrange for food vendors or volunteer cooks. Finally, the most important step is to organize and record all donations and costs.

Bingo

Organize a charity bingo game. Churches and other charities have hosted fund-raising bingo games for many years. The most important part of setting up charity bingo is obtaining prizes. Look for a sponsor for your charity event. Local businesses can take tax deductions for their donations, and most large companies have money allocated for local charities. Next, find a hall, arrange for food and start your publicity campaign. You'll also need volunteers to run the event, take money at the door, sell cards, and operate the bingo machine and call the numbers.

Dinner Theater Murder Mystery

While you can arrange a murder mystery from the ground up, it's far easier to contact a local dinner theater and ask the cost of renting the whole theater for your event. If the theater performers would be too costly, contact the local amateur theater for actors. You can buy your murder mystery script online or write your own. Murder mysteries are very popular but you want to start planning far in advance to make sure that you sell out the event and that everyone practices and knows his role.

Carnival

Setting up a charity carnival requires more sweat equity and a larger commitment from volunteers, but it also can garner a significant income for your charity. Build or rent a ticket booth, and set up a dozen games. Also, arrange for outdoor food and drink vendors. This event can be held right in your backyard, or contact a local church or arrange for city property depending on the size of your event. Getting many small prizes will enhance your charity carnival, but also consider having certificates for the "best" dart thrower or "number one" ring tosser made up using your charity's logo for winners as well. Possible charity games include the aforementioned darts and ring toss, a milk bottle knockdown, yellow duckie winning numbers, basketball hoops contests, a penny toss, a guess your weight game, horseshoes, and even a putt-putt hole in one.
