Achieve Personal Training

Reaching personal training goals takes time and dedication.

Fitness and personal training -- whether it's at the start of a new year, trying to fit into those summer clothes or meeting old friends for a reunion, people look for ways to achieve personal fitness. To be successful, you must determine a goal and decide how you want to reach it. You may choose to build or sculpt muscle, lose weight, increase aerobic stamina and endurance or a combination of these. Or you may want to improve your golf game, run a marathon, hike Pike's Peak or learn to bowl better. No matter what you decide, you can achieve the end result of improved health by following a few simple steps.

Instructions

1. List your personal training goals. When you see where you want to go in writing, it will help you develop a plan to get there. The goals should be specific and concrete. Instead of saying "I want to lose weight," say "I want to lose 20 pounds in 60 days." By having measurable goals, you will know if you have achieved them. Set up small rewards as you reach milestones along the way; try to keep these non-food related. A new hair style or new jeans or even a bit of down time enjoying a movie you have been waiting a while to see can be used as treats. Keep a visual reminder in plain sight to help you see where want to go. For a golfer, it might be the beautiful course in La Jolla where you want to play next summer. For the runner, it might be a photo of someone finishing that marathon.

2. Work out with a partner. Accountability helps motivate you toward your goal. You can encourage each other and stick to a schedule and plan.

3. Track your progress. You will know how you are doing in reaching your goal. For example, if you plan to lose 20 pounds in 60 days, you know you will need to lose about five pounds every 15 days or so. Mapping out a strategy for success helps motivate you toward your goal. Focus on your end objective.

4. Hire a personal trainer. While a certified and experienced instructor may cost quite a bit of money initially, the techniques you learn and apply can continue to benefit you long after the training sessions end. He will motivate you toward your fitness goals and help you reach them effectively and safety. He will assess your overall fitness prior to starting training and even assist you with dietary issues, working to meet your specific fitness needs.
