Fundraising Ideas For Family Centers

Fund-raisers are the best moneymakers for nonprofit organizations.

Fund-raisers are excellent ways to raise money for various causes. There are all kinds of fund-raising activities that will help you reach your goals. You can be as creative as you want, but try to design events that have wide appeal so that you can get the most profit for your efforts. Always plan fund-raising events well in advance and thoroughly research the idea.

Basket Raffle

Each group will choose a theme, such as sports or a spa day, for a basket and put it together as creatively as possible. Contact local businesses to donate items. Number each basket and make a list of the items within it. Show the list to family, friends or co-workers, and sell tickets for one dollar for a chance at the basket of their choice. Place the sold tickets in a bag in each basket and draw one ticket from each bag. The winner will receive the beautiful basket worth perhaps $200 to $300.

Engraved Bricks

Find an area at the center, school or neighborhood that needs a footpath or patio to be built or replaced. Locate a supplier of engraved bricks. Develop a list of people who might be interested in leaving a legacy of goodwill in their community. Offer to engrave their names on a brick for $25, or $35 or whatever amount you think is likely to garner interest. You do not have to pay for materials up front; you pay after you receive the money for the orders.

Children's Cookbook

Write a book of the children's favorite recipes. Ask each child the name of the dish he is going to cook, the ingredients that he will need, the steps in putting together the recipe, how the dish is cooked; finally, ask him to draw a picture of what the dish looks like. Write the children's answers exactly as they tell them to you. Assemble the responses and scan them into the computer. Either create the books yourselves, or take them to a company, such as Kinko's. Sell the books to parents and friends.

Board Game Tournament

Choose different board games, such as Scrabble, cards, Balderdash, etc. Set up tables and assemble teams that will work together to accumulate points. Charge a small entry fee for each team, and create a competitive spirit by offering prizes for teams with the most points. Set a time limit for each phase of the competition, and announce any rules beforehand by which all teams must abide. Set up an area for the audience, and have a concession stand nearby to sell snacks.
