The main professional volleyball governing body in the United States is the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), based in Los Angeles, California. You may also want to train for a spot on the U.S. Olympic volleyball team. Top male volleyball players have career earnings of over $3 million while top female players have career earnings over $750,000. There are about 300-400 professional volleyball players in the United States, some earning in excess of $300,000 per year, not including income from endorsements.

Instructions

Become a professional volleyball player

1. Play volleyball as often as possible while you are in school. Try out for a position on your school’s interscholastic volleyball team, if it has one. Most colleges offer interscholastic volleyball league programs.

2. Compete in amateur volleyball contests. Many beaches have volleyball nets and you should try to assemble enough players to practice with. The more players you can organize in a game the better but you should also practice one-on-one.

3. Joining the AVP and paying the membership fees will open up many opportunities to compete professionally. While there are occasional events that offer prize money, affiliating with the AVP is your best course of action to successfully compete and make a career in professional volleyball.

4. Competing in AVP events will take you to many travel destinations. You could earn a reasonable living playing professional volleyball if you are talented and determined enough to do so.

5. Kick start your career in pro volleyball by competing in AVP events on a regular basis. You should contact a talent agent if you want to endorse volleyball-related products. You could potentially earn a substantial amount of money by doing so.

6. Contact the US Volleyball Association in Colorado Springs, Colorado for information about trying out for a position on the U.S. Olympic volleyball team.
