The gallbladder is a small sack that sits beneath the liver and stores bile. A gallbladder attack can be caused by infection, inflammation or obstruction of the gallbladder, as well as gallstones.
Significance
The bile stored in the gallbladder is comprised mainly of fat. Excessive amounts of bile trying to be moved out causes pain when there is an obstruction in the exit.
Red Meat
Most cuts of red meat are heavily marbled with fat, which negatively impacts people suffering from gallbladder attacks. Instead choose lean cuts of chicken or pork.
Fried Foods
Fried foods such as french fries, donuts and chicken fingers all have high fat content.
Dairy
Cheese, milk, yogurt, and ice cream can cause more pain for people suffering a gallbladder attack if they are made with whole-fat milk. Limit dairy and choose low-fat varieties when necessary.
Sugar
Diets with a large amount of sugar seem to increase the risk of a gallbladder attack. Replacing refined sugar may help limit attack severity.
Carbohydrates
Simple carbohydrates such as white bread and pasta are turned into sugar once they enter the digestive system. These also should be limited along with regular sugar.
