Good Ideas For Fund Raising

Auctions can raise money quickly.

Fundraising is a necessary evil for many organizations; often, it provides a big part of the annual operating budget. As you plan fundraisers, choose options that will attract a wide range of people in your community to attract those who wouldn't otherwise be donors. By involving community members, you can increase your organization's name recognition.

Auctions

No matter what the time of year or type of organization, a fundraising auction can be tailored to fit your purposes. You can hold a silent auction and gala by soliciting donated goods from community businesses and individuals. You might also hold a service auction, where people bid for services like a free mural painting by a local artist, or a free service session by a mechanic. For any type of auction, the more valuable or rare the items, the more interest you can raise.

Corporate Sponsorship

If your organization is reasonably well known in the community, you can seek corporate sponsorship for fundraising. Because there are PR benefits that result from helping a good cause, companies may be more likely to give larger amounts of money than standard donors. To make your appeal more professional and convincing, put together a packet and ask for specific amounts. In return, offer free publicity and recognition at your events, on your website, or in promotional materials.

Fun Run/Walk

When you want to hold a fundraising event that's healthy and open to people of all ages, hold a fun run/walk. Set up the race as a 5K walk and invite the entire community; because of the short distance, a 5K is accessible for everyone, from families with children to serious runners. Charge a fee for each runner to raise money and get a local business to donate T-shirts for participants. Advertise widely and invite local schools to participate to raise awareness and interest among families.

Formal Wear Resale

If your area has a high concentration of high schools or universities, hold a formal wear sale. Get donations of evening gowns, shoes, and menswear, and invite people to sell their items on commission. Set up the sale in the early fall or spring, before the homecoming, prom, and college formal season. Students can come to buy gowns at lower prices; this is particularly effective for college students who don't have much money to spend on new clothes.
