Be Mentally Prepared Before A Game

Mental preparation before a game warms up the mind so the body can perform at its best. In other words, mental preparation before any game is every bit as important for the players as all the practices, skills and workouts. No player, despite great athletic ability, can perform without first preparing mentally for the game. Read on to learn be mentally prepared before a game.


Instructions


1. Be in top form physically. Have a high carb and high protein meal the night before following by a restful sleep. Have a hearty breakfast a few hours before the game.


2. Stay well hydrated before the game. Snack on foods like nuts, yogurt, energy bars and fruit to keep energy and mental acuity up. Do stretching and cardio to warm up sufficiently. Drill in groups and with the team.


3. Review tapes or scouting information about the opponent in the days before the game. Discuss the other team's strengths and weakness and play into both.


4. Keep company with those who are encouraging and positive. Shy away from outside advice or criticism the night before and on game day.


5. Listen carefully to the coach's plan for the game. Focus on the team's goals and individual contribution. Think through the game start to finish.


6. Visualize victory and maintain a high energy level. Concentrate on what it takes to win. Maintain a positive attitude throughout the game regardless. Play to win. Be confident, and shrug off mistakes to keep the focus.


7. Relax and enjoy the game while staying in the zone. Support teammates with words of encouragement from the sidelines.
