Fundraising Sponsor Ideas

Raising money for a charity can sometimes be a daunting task and it is not always easy to think of original ways to raise the necessary funds. There are however, a variety of events, challenges and ways for you to do your part to help your favorite charity. So, whether you are an outdoor adventurer or a music lover, there is something you can do to help.

Run a Marathon

A good way to raise money for a charitable cause is to enter one of the many marathons that are organized around the world. Sometimes the charity for which you are raising money will have spaces available in this type of event; however, if it does not you can still participate with the aim of raising money for it. Once you have entered the event, the sponsorship process will then begin. Contact friends, family and even corporations to raise the money. If you are concerned that you may not finish the event, you can ask to be sponsored per mile so that every mile you run will raise money regardless of whether you are able to complete the event. Deciding to do a marathon is a big decision and requires sufficient training, so it is a good idea to give yourself enough time to prepare for it by entering the event as early as possible. In some of the major events such as the London Marathon, applications are taken up to 10 months before the race so consider this when deciding to participate. Although it is a lot of hard work, you will feel you have achieved an enormous amount by running the full 26 miles for your chosen charity.

Hold a Concert

It doesn't have to be the next Woodstock, but by organizing a music concert you will be able to raise funds, create awareness and have fun at the same time. The first step is to find a suitable venue. Contact local community halls and music venues to see if you can get something suitable. Perhaps consider a local bar with a live music license. After you have found a venue, contact local bands and musicians, most people will be keen to play if it is for a good cause, as well as the chance to promote themselves. If you do not have much contact with live music acts then it is a good idea to visit music shops and see if you can advertise for your event, inviting bands and acts to try out. Once you have your venue and your acts, you can sell tickets to the event thus raising money for your charity through sales. As well as featuring live music, invite your chosen charity to the event so it can raise awareness of its good work at the same time.

Climb a Mountain

For those with a taste for adventure, combine your passion for charity with your passion for the outdoors by participating in a charity climb. There are numerous companies that organize treks and climbs and you may find yourself at the summit of Kilimanjaro in the name of a good cause. As with any kind of trek, it is advisable to make sure you are fit enough to participate before you fully commit to the climb. Research the area thoroughly before you go so you know what to expect, and train extensively. Most charities involved with these types of events will ensure you have adequate information, but it is always a good idea to learn as much about climbing as you can. To help with your training, find a local group to go climbing with as part of your preparation. This way you know that by the time the event comes around you will have the confidence to make the summit and raise the required money, as well.
