Heath bars
are one of the most famous forms of commercially available chocolate and toffee sweets with a trademark solid toffee bar in their makeup. This heavy ratio of toffee to chocolate makes Heath bars especially good to cook with and add to other recipes and sweets. Add Heath bars in either large chunks or finely ground dust to a variety of baked goods and sugary items. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Cookies
Create delicious Heath bar cookies by substituting broken-up bits of Heath bar for chocolate chips in any chocolate chip cookie recipe. Either purchase Heath bar baking bits available in many grocery baking sections, or purchase Heath bars and break them up using a butcher's knife and kitchen chopping block. For an added caramel taste that complements Heath bars well, add some baking caramels or caramel sauce (about half as much as the quantity of candy you mixed in, or less).
Topping
Purchase Heath bar baking bits, or break up regular candy bars to create a dessert topping to sprinkle on other confections. This is good for ice cream sundaes and frosted cakes and cupcakes. Go a step further and grind up the Heath bar in a food processor for a coarse dust that you can use to coat homemade goods like fudge balls or freshly cooked doughnuts.
Cheesecake
Spice up a cheesecake with Heath bar pieces by mixing them directly into the batter before baking. This works well with larger pieces of about a half inch square. Also try mixing finely crushed Heath bar into a graham cracker or cookie crust for added flavor. This works well with a caramel-coated cheesecake, since the toffee and caramel tastes are similar.
Fondue
Add Heath bar pieces to chocolate fondue if you like a bit of toffee crunch with your melted chocolate. Either add the heath bar to the melted chocolate just before serving, or keep a jar of finely crushed candy bar pieces next to the fondue pot. Dip each item into chocolate, then into Heath bar pieces, which will stick to the melted chocolate and create a candy coating. This is good with items like pound cake, marshmallows and bananas.
S'Mores
Substitute Heath bars for plain chocolate bars to make an extra-decadent campfire s'more. It may prove to be a little more difficult to eat, due to the added crunch (the chocolate will melt but the toffee will not), but the results are sure to satisfy toffee lovers.
