Apply For Food Stamps In Hawaii

Individuals who qualify with TANF or SSI do not have SNAP income or asset limits

In the state of Hawaii, the "Food Stamp Program" has been replaced by SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, a federally-funded food plan for low-income households or senior or disabled individuals. The former food coupons have been replaced by the SNAP EBT, or electronic benefits transfer card, which can be used at participating retailers in Hawaii with the Quest logo. The EBT card is pre-loaded monthly and can be used to purchase groceries, seeds and food-bearing plants.

Instructions

1. Determine your eligibility for Hawaii's SNAP program. If your household receives funding from TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) or SSI (Supplemental Security Income), you automatically qualify for SNAP assistance.

If your household receives funding through the DHS 1464 TANF Informational Brochure, and your gross monthly income is 200 percent of the federal poverty level or less, you will qualify for SNAP, regardless of family assets.

Households with an elderly or disable individuals present and whose overall income is 130 percent of the federal poverty or less level may qualify if they have less than $2,000 to $3,000 in family assets.

Your monthly net income level may not be more than 100 percent of the federal poverty level, and if a household member is able-bodied, work registration is required.
